It seems like every time I turn around, there’s a new exercise craze that’s all the rage. I thought bodyweight training was just going to be another example of this but it turns out I was wrong!
Bodyweight training is actually an amazing workout. Let me share a few reasons why it’s such a great phenomenon.
- It’s convenient—it doesn’t really get much more convenient than a bodyweight workout. This is a workout that just about anybody anywhere can do. Better yet, you get to exercise in the privacy of your own home. This is a true “judgement-free” zone and for some people, that might be reason enough to get started on such a plan.
- It’s super easy—it doesn’t get much easier than using only your own bodyweight and doing this workout in your own home. Even the craziest schedules can accommodate a workout like this. If you can’t find an extra 20-30 minutes a day to exercise under these ideal conditions, then you’re truly not serious about your health and fitness. With no commute, no waiting for machines and no sign-up for group classes, lack of time is no longer a valid excuse.
- It’s cheap—let’s talk money. While you can certainly spend money on an extravagant bodyweight training program with all kinds of bells and whistles, you don’t have to. There are plenty of free online programs you can get. Just browse around on Google for a few minutes and you’ll have a lot of choices.
Don’t forget, even if you do fork over a few bucks for an incredible bodyweight program you’ll probably still be saving money. Gym fees alone can cost folks hundreds of dollars a year. Add to that the expense of your commute (time and gas) and parking fees, gym clothes, sneakers and additional fees for classes and training.
Don’t get me wrong, I love training at a gym, but it’s not a bad idea to mix it up now and then, too. And, best of all, if you were thinking you had an excuse for not working out … well, now you don’t!
