Five Superfood Smoothie Recipes that will Power You Through Your Workouts

Now that summer is upon us, it’s important to stay healthy and fit. And, that’s not always an easy task with family vacations, weddings and other social events and the typical disruption of your normal routine. How can you stay on track this summer and still have plenty of fun?

Here are a few simple tips that will help you make the most of your summer, while not thwarting all the progress you’ve made all year long.

  1. Keep your diet in line—meaning whenever you’re not out socializing, try to stick to some of the “superfoods,” like spinach, blueberries, almonds, kale, coconut butter, organic grass-fed yogurt and more. Superfoods are nutrient-packed foods that naturally boost your health and immune system keeping your body operating at peak levels of health.
  2. Include plenty of whey protein—yes, including healthy organic sources of protein is important. Whey protein helps balance your blood sugar and insulin levels all while keeping you full and satisfied. Additionally, extra protein in your diet will help you keep all the hard-earned, metabolically-active muscle you put on over the past months.
  3. Plan cheat days—if you plan your cheat days or meals to coincide with your social events, you won’t feel guilty about indulging and as long as you get right back on your plan the next day, you’ll actually be tricking your metabolism into burning even more fat than ever.
  4. Don’t skip exercise—just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean you should slack off when it comes to your workouts. Keep up your exercise schedule as best as possible and plan ahead when social events encroach on your workout time.
  5. Focus on friends and family—that’s what summer’s all about! Don’t obsess over your diet or workouts. Just fit it all in around your schedule to the best of your ability. When you shift your focus to the reason you’re gathered together, you’ll end up just enjoying your time together and the social interaction.
